TV and radio presenter Alison Hammond will be in Dudley on Saturday for the big switch-on of the Christmas lights.

The popular Brummie, who is the showbiz reporter for ITV’s This Morning, will press the button on December 2 to illuminate the town and mark the start of the festive season.

The Dudley Council event is organised in conjunction with Tudor Markets, which runs and manages the market in the town. It will include a Christmas market, a street food and drinks fair, children’s rides, face painting and the chance to meet Santa. Car parking on the day will be free at council car parks and entertainment will be on from 11am right up to the big switch-on in High Street near the fountain at 5pm.

Councillor Ian Kettle, cabinet member for planning and economic development, said:

“We’ve got a fun-packed family day planned to celebrate the switching on of the Christmas lights in Dudley, which will formally mark the start of the festive season in the town.

“We would urge people to come along for a great day out.”

Alison first appeared on TV in the third series of Big Brother back in 2002.

Since then the larger than life star has gone on to forge a successful career on screen and radio.

Other TV appearances include Celebrity Fit Club, Celebrity Stars In Their Eyes, Loose Women, I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here, Celebrity Masterchef and Strictly Come Dancing.

She also presents a show on BBC WM every Sunday alongside Daz Hale, who will be joining her at the switch-on in Dudley.

Alison will be assisted in switch-on duties by the winner of a competition run by Dudley Council on its Facebook page, to be announced later this week.

The local authority has snapped elves Eric and Erica at a number of locations around Dudley, and asked people to comment on social media stating where they think the pair are.
