Children would be batty to miss out on a bat-themed Halloween trail in Brierley Hill this half-term (Saturday October 21 – Sunday October 29), as they could be in with a chance to win tickets for the Himley Park bonfire and fireworks.

Kids who don’t hang around can pick up a free trail from Brierley Hill library, which will lead families around the town centre as they search for the furry friends.  The clue sheet will also be available at www.discoverdudley.org.uk

Youngsters who solve the clues can put their completed form into a prize draw at the library, on Brierley Hill High Street. The winner will get a family ticket for Himley Park bonfire and fireworks, worth £23, plus free parking.

Children searching for more seasonal activities can also enjoy Halloween-themed crafts at the library.

Plus, on Saturday 28 October, Brierley Hill Indoor Market is running Halloween-themed activities including a face painter, a horror-themed market stall and Halloween characters handing out sweets.

Councillor Ian Kettle, cabinet member for regeneration, said:

“This is a fun, free half-term pursuit that will encourage children to get outside while following the clues, exercising both body and mind.

“I would like to thank the traders in Brierley Hill who have, yet again, got into the spirit of things and helped to create a family activity in the town centre.  Indeed, while following the trail, I would urge adults who are accompanying any children to pop into the shops and support their local high street.”

The bonfire family ticket prize admits two adults and two children up to the age of 15. Children under five receive free admission. The ever popular event will be held at Himley Park on Saturday 4 November. Gates open at 4.30pm, the bonfire is lit at 7.45pm and the fireworks begin at 8.30pm.

The bat trail is the latest event to take place in Brierley Hill town centre, hot on the heels of the summer Brier Fair.  Other recent attractions have included pancake making, children’s activities and a Teenage Market.
