Temporary road closure for BT works

Pensnett High Street

Swan Street in Pensnett will be closed to traffic at its junction with High Street over the school half-term holidays, council bosses have announced.

The closure is to enable BT to carry out essential works and has been timetabled to last from October 23 to October 27. The road will be opened earlier if the works are completed.

The works will be carried out in the mouth of the junction only, so access will still be available via Broad Street.

The work is part of the £6.3 million Pensnett road improvement scheme, currently underway.

Councillor Karen Shakespeare, cabinet member for environmental services, said:

“We ask motorists to bear with us while the work is carried out. It is due to be completed within a week.”

The £6.3 million road improvement scheme in Pensnett, will see two new sets of traffic lights put up on High Street at the junctions of High Oak and Tansey Green Road. This will ease congestion and make it safer for turning traffic.

The road will be widened along the High Street for two lanes to be introduced in both directions at the new traffic lights, while there will also be additional pedestrian crossings.
