Fostering campaign takes to the road

Fostering in Dudley

Dudley’s fostering campaign is taking to the road this week on the back and inside of buses across the borough.

The fostering service is using local bus routes to spread the word that they’re looking for great new foster carers who can provide homes for children looked after.

Since the service launched their ‘I foster, you can too’ campaign, there has been a big focus on the vast range of people who can foster, along with the type of children looking for a home.

The team is encouraging people to find out more and are holding drop-in sessions during September, on Thursday 14 from 10am to noon and Thursday 21 from 1 to 4pm at Dudley Wood Adult Learning Centre, Pavilion Gardens, and in the Bold Room at Merry Hill on Friday 15 September from 10am to 7pm.

Fostering in Dudley offers a rewarding career, including 24 hour support, training and guidance 365 days a year and a range of fostering options.

Councillor Anne Millward, cabinet member for Children’s Services, said:

“It’s great to see the fostering message going out far and wide across the borough, we really need new carers so we can provide safe and stable homes to children looked after in Dudley borough.

“Our drop-in sessions are a great way to find out more in a friendly, relaxed environment and I’d encourage anyone interested to come along and speak to an advisor.

“No one has to make any commitment at the sessions, it’s just a chance to get some more information and ask questions to help make a decision.

“For those who can’t make the sessions, our fostering website www.fosteringindudley.org.uk has lots of useful information.”

The service is keen to hear from anyone interested in fostering but in particular from those who would like to care for teenagers, children with disabilities or those who could take more than one child so brothers and sisters can stay together. They would also like to hear from people interested in long term fostering.
