Meet Dudley Council's charity fundraisers ...

Sporting council workers and councillors will be championing charity this year after they formed a sports team to raise funds for good causes.

Following the Olympic success of Team GB in 2012, Dudley Council has launched Team DB in 2013 to represent Dudley Borough.

Team DB will arrange and take part in a series of charity sports events throughout the year to raise money for the Mayor of Dudley’s chosen charities.

The council will also take over responsibility for public health issues from the old Dudley Primary Care Trust this year and are looking to lead by example by taking part in healthy and sporty activities.

Sporting events throughout the year could include indoor cricket, bowling, football, swimming, fishing and even dragon boat racing.

Funds raised by competing in the events will go to charity.

Each year the Mayor of Dudley selects charities to raise money for during their year in office. This year, the Mayor’s charity appeal is in aid of Dudley Stroke Association and Diabetes UK - Stourbridge, Dudley and District Support Group.

Team DB has been sponsored by Blakey’s restaurant in Lye. The funding has enabled the team to get T-shirts printed which will be worn in the various events throughout the year.

Team DB raises £300 through indoor cricket match

A total of £300 was stumped up for charity after sporting councillors and council workers took part in an indoor cricket event.

The staff and politicians, all competing on behalf of Team DB, which was set up earlier this year to help raise money for charity, took part in the event at the old Pensnett High School on Saturday (March 2).

The councillors team took the honours on the day, beating a team of children’s services staff, with one ball to spare in the final.
