How to find what you are looking for in these pages

'Social care' is the name given to a wide range of support offered by the Council, voluntary and community organisations and independent organisations and in some cases, self-employed people. At some point in our lives most, if not all, of us will need help with every day living because of an illness, a disability, because we are getting older or because we are caring for someone.

We have divided the information in these pages into three sections to help you find the most appropriate information.

Getting to the good stuff

If you are looking for support for yourself or for someone you care for, please see social care services. There you will find information on all of the support we provide.

  • support that may be available to prevent or delay the need for social care support

  • short-term, intermediate or reablement support

  • longer term support at home or in supported housing or residential care. There is information for carers too. We explain who might be eligible for support, what types of support we have and what it might cost. Look to the left on each page to see what's in each section.

Making it Real

If you would like to know about some of the policies, strategies and guidance that underpin the work we do, follow this link and find out how we are Making it Real in Dudley. In this section you will also find examples of some of our new ways of working.

Getting involved

If you want to make a comment about the way we work, help to shape the way we support people or find out ways you can be involved, see getting involved. There are links between sections too as much of the information we have is relevant in many different circumstances.

The Essential Guide to Adult Social Care

You should find the information and links you need in the three sections on the left. We have also tried to bring much of it together in an online training course and resource - for those of you who would like to see exactly how it all hangs together, how adult social care services relate to the wider community, the reasons we are doing things in certain ways, and what this means for individuals.
