Queens Cross Network - physical disability support centre

Our support centre for adults with physical and/or sensory disabilities is called Queens Cross Network and is located on Wellington Road in central Dudley. It offers individual, flexible, client focused support programmes to people who have physical or sensory disability or both.

The centre offers several areas of support:

  • Day opportunities

  • Drop-in facility

  • Community outreach support

Lots of exciting day opportunities are offered to people who attend, as well as a flexible provision – people can attend the centre on a full day basis, half day or on a drop in basis – to suit their individual needs, requirements or personal budgets.

Each day people have the opportunity to get involved with activities such as gardening clubs, arts and crafts, cookery sessions, indoor sports, relaxation sessions and even home-building skills sessions. Themed days and evening events are also regularly on offer.

The centre has a well equipped gym, library area, quiet room, gardens, computer suite and catering kitchens, as well as a café run and managed by Disability in Action, an organisation which is run and managed by people who have a disability. Refreshments are available – people attending can choose to buy meals, snacks and drinks. Alternatively the catering kitchens can be used so people can cook their own lunch or evening meal to take home.

All activities can be adapted to meet individual needs and where needed assistance with personal care can be provided sensitively and discreetly by trained members of staff.

Involvement with activities certainly isn’t compulsory and the centre can simply be a great place to meet up with friends and chat over a coffee.

Community outreach - supporting people to live independently

The Network also offers a community outreach service that provides support over a maximum of four weeks with follow up support.

Opportunities that can be supported in this way include help with seeking paid employment and work experience, home building and management skills, independent travel training, involvement in sports and leisure pursuits and further education or training. The aim is to maximise confidence and independence.

People are fully involved in the development, planning and evaluation of their own programme and we work together towards agreed goals, having some fun and enjoyment along the way.

Disability in Action

People who use the centre are actively involved in the running of Queens Cross Network. The centre is home to Disability in Action, one of Dudley’s most vibrant and active user led organisations.

News - Disability in Action are currently looking for new volunteers. For more information please visit their Disability in Action website.

Using the network’s services

The network can be accessed in three ways:

  • To access (paid for) day opportunities, people will need an assessment from a social worker, who will decide if they are eligible to attend.

  • To access the drop-in service or to use the community outreach aspect of the centre, people can refer themselves directly, or be referred by a family member, friend, carer, social worker or GP. A formal social care assessment is not necessarily required in order to qualify for the service and there is no charge. However this service can be offered as part of an adult social care package.

The network can be contacted on 01384 813460. Visits to the centre are welcomed at anytime between 9am and 5pm. We look forward to seeing you soon!
