New build council homes

In 2014, housing chiefs in Dudley committed to invest over £40 million on creating around 350 brand new council homes over the next five years. The new homes are a response to the increasing demand for affordable housing across Dudley borough.

By the end of 2016, Dudley will have completed 54 new homes in seven locations, in addition to the 99 new homes which were built on six sites across the borough in 2012.

Since 2014, Dudley has been successful in the construction of new council homes in the following areas:-         

  • Wollaston on Norfolk Road [6 Two apartments]

  • Coseley in Mount Pleasant[6 One bedroom houses, 7 Two bedroom housed, 1 One bedroom bungalow with mezzanine,  1 Four bedroom apartment, 1 Three bedroom house]

  • Woodsetton in Arcal Street [7 Two bedroom bungalows, 1 Three bedroom bungalows, 3 Two bedroom apartments, 3 One bedroom apartments]

  • Dudley in Wrens Nest (former Housing Office) [2 Two bedroom apartments]

  • Holloway Chambers in Central Dudley [2 Two bedroom apartments]

  • Sedgley at The Walk [6 Two bedroom apartments, 3 Two bedroom houses]

  • Dudley in Ketley Hill Road [7 or 8 bungalows, 4 two bed houses, 6 three bed houses and 2 four bed houses]

  • Saltwells in Lea Bank Road [8 one bed apartments and 2 four bed shared houses for housing with support]

  • Kingswinford in Marley Road [5 two bed houses]

  • Coseley in Davies Avenue [2 two bed bungalows, 7 two bed houses and 2 four bed houses]

Some of the properties are specifically designed to meet the needs of people with physical or learning disabilities and/or support needs, others are for general need.

All of the new properties, which include low level apartment blocks, bungalows and houses, will be built to lifetime standards.

The properties will be built for people with general housing needs, and some will be designed specifically for people in the need of supported living options, such as those recovering from mental ill health.

The lettings process for most of these new homes is through the usual lettings process. Via choice based lettings, through Dudley at Home.

Consultation has now taken place regarding Middlepark Road, Russells Hall, Dudley and will comprise of 12 one bed houses for single person/ couple; 4 two bed bungalows for single person/couple/family or all adult household up to three persons where the tenant is over 60 and/or someone in the household has a disability need; 8 two bed houses for families with one child or two children same sex; 10 three bed houses for families with two or more children; 6 Four bed houses for families with three or more children; 2 five bed houses for families with four or more children

Consultation has now taken place regarding Mars Close, Coseley and will comprise of 4 two bed houses for families with one child or two children same sex.

Consultation has now taken place regarding Butler’s Crescent (Dudley Guest), Dudley and will comprise of 12 one bed flats for single person/couple; 9 two bed flats for single person/couple/family with one child or two children same sex, or all adult household; 8 two bed houses for families with one child or two children same sex; 6 three bed houses for families with two or more children; 4 four bed house for families with three or more children. 

Consultation is now underway for Beech Road, Kingswinford and will comprise of 4 one bed flats for single person/couple and 12 two bed flats for single person/couple/family with one child or two children same sex, or all adult household.

Consultation is now underway for Crowle Drive, Stourbridge and will comprise of 12 two bed dormer bungalows for single person/couple/ family or all adult household up to three persons where the tenant is over 60 and/or someone in the household has a disability need.  Note: Persons over 55 without disability needs may be considered if none over 60 are available
