Landlord and property accreditation

We operate a landlord Accreditation Scheme which links to the Midland Landlord Accreditation Scheme (MLAS) and accredits individual landlords on standards of management in the sector.

The scheme is aimed at driving up standards in the private rented sector by recognising those landlords that are working towards improving the quality of accommodation in the private rented market through the provision of professional development training on legislative requirements, good practice in the sector, dealing with common tenancy management problems and technical advice to bring properties up to set housing standards.

In order to accredit landlords as 'fit and proper persons' for purpose of managing private sector tenancies, we decided to link to the Midland Landlord Accreditation Scheme (MLAS), which was set up to work with local authorities across the region to recognise good standards of landlord management and develop a process of continuous professional development recognised across all local authority members. To become accredited, any individual, agent, partnership or Ltd company can apply but must attend a one day development course, agree to follow a code of conduct and certify that they are a ‘fit and proper person’ (there are additional requirements for agencies). More information about the course, including feedback from landlords who have attended, including the range of venues and the cost of the course is available on the Midland Landlord Accreditation Scheme website
