Resource boxes

We have resource boxes for hire to use in the classroom. The boxes contain laminated copies of archival documents and local history materials and we are working to create lesson plans and activities for teachers to be included. The resource boxes are themed and all contain records which relate to local history.

The documents selected for the boxes are just a small selection of the items held at the centre.

We are committed to promoting learning through archive and local history material and would like to work with teachers to devise new resource boxes that work well in a classroom setting. If you are a teacher interested in working with us to devise a new resource box relating to a topic you are studying we'd like to talk to you. Please contact us to discuss.

World War II

This World War II resource box contains a CD Rom of World War II images and laminated copies of documents about World War II in the Dudley Borough including Public Notices, newspaper extracts, posters, adverts, photographs, ration books and a National Registration Card. The documents illustrate notable events between 1939 and 1945 and also peace efforts since the end of the war.

Black History

As part of Black History Month and to celebrate the diverse culture of the borough we created this box which relates to black culture in the borough. This box includes: biographical information about prominent black citizens including material about George Cousins, the first Black Baptist Minister in the area; 2 black history archives projects, Shaydz of Black and Generations 8; documents related to slavery, 1960s race riots and immigration; and community relations council reports.

Titanic

The sinking of the Titanic in 1912 continues to capture the imagination of many. We created this resource box to mark the occasion of the centenary of this tragic event and to acknowledge the contribution made by local firm Noah Hingley & Sons Ltd. who manufactured the 3 anchors for the ship.

The Titanic resource box includes photographs of the anchors and Noah Hingley's works, a workers account, product catalogues, the cost order book and contemporary newspaper articles.

If you would like to use one of our resource boxes with your class please contact us for more details.
