First World War exhibition: July - September 2014

The Great War exhibition commemorates one hundred years since the outbreak of the First World War.

The fascinating and often touching exhibition marks the contributions made by Black Country residents during the First World War years.

Entitled ‘1914 – 1918, Men and Memorials’, the exhibition was designed by local historian Roy Peacock, President of the Black Country Society, with funding coming from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

It honours individual men who died in the conflict and who are named on local memorials. There is also a focus upon tunnelling – the army harnessed the skills of Black Country miners to tunnel under the battlefields – prisoners of war and battlefield memorials.
