Friends of The Archives

The Friends of Dudley Archives and Local History Service was formed in 2001 with the co-operation of the Archives and Local History Service. Its aims and objectives include:

  • to promote and support the work of the Archives and Local History Service
  • to raise the profile of archives locally and encourage their use
  • to foster interest in archives, promote their preservation and deposit with The Archives or another appropriate repository
  • to encourage the development of The Archives and Local History Service
  • to raise funds for these purposes and to make special purchases for The Archives and Local History Service
  • to provide a forum for users of The Archives and Local History Service to communicate with each other and the service.

Friends' meetings are held at the Archives and Local History Centre on Tipton Road, Dudley on the first Thursday of each month (except January and August) at 7.30pm. These meetings include talks by visiting speakers on family and local history topics. The talks are open to everyone. A fee of £2 is charged for non-members.

We are always looking for new members and membership is open to anyone with an interest in the archives and local history. Membership costs £8 per year and member benefits include:

  • 8 free local history talks per year
  • An annual members' evening
  • Friends of Dudley Archives and Local History Service newsletter

See the What's New page for details of local history talks.
