Using The Archives

The Archives and Local History Centre is located on the Tipton Road, Dudley DY1 4SQ (next to the Black Country Living Museum).

The archives service is open to visitors on the following days:

  • Tuesday 9.30am to 5pm

  • Wednesday to Friday 10.30am to 4pm

  • Saturday: 10am to 4.30pm

Visitors can come to the centre during opening times without a prior appointment. However, we do have a booking service for resources such as computers and tables (in the search room). You can also request documents in advance.

Many of the records held at the centre are unique and irreplaceable. For this reason you will need to register with us before using the search room. Please bring identification with you - see the registration page for details.

There are no admission charges to the centre and there are no charges to view the material that we hold. However, there are charges for some of the services that are available at the centre - see the full list on the fees and charges page.

Please note: the material we hold can only be viewed in our search room at the centre. Items cannot be borrowed or removed from the premises.

Copyright

Some records held by The Archives fall under the Copyright Designs and Patents Act (1988) and therefore certain restrictions are in place to prevent infringement of copyright laws. For more information see the policies page.
