Enquiries and research services

If you have any questions about how The Archive and Local History Centre operates, the material we hold, our talks and events, please contact us.

The Archives operates a fee-paying research service for anyone unable to visit the archive. Our experienced staff can carry out searches in any records which we hold here. We cannot guarantee success but we can promise the dedicated service of our professional staff. If you do wish us to carry out a search for you, please contact us via phone, email or post giving details and enclosing payment.

Requests about the records and other sources we hold and how they can be used for research is free. Detailed searches of our catalogues incur a research fee. We offer free advice before booking on whether our Research Service is appropriate for your research needs.

Payment should be made in advance, please call 01384 812770 to make a credit/debit card payment. The current charge for this service can be found on the Fees and Charges page.

We can conduct a maximum of 2 hours per enquiry. Copies are charged for separately. We will report on the results of a search within 20 working days.

Credit Card payments: Please note that from 1st April 2013 credit card payments are subject to a transaction charge of 1.2% in addition to the normal fees and charges.
