Photocopying

The material held at The Archives and Local History Centre is important, historic and often one of a kind. For that reason we take great care when copying items. Please see our Reprographics Policy for more details.

Photocopies will only be provided if copying will not cause damage to the original and is carried out by members of staff. Photocopies cannot be made from the following:

  • parchment documents
  • documents with a seal
  • 'fold-outs' in books
  • items which are larger than A3 size
  • rolled items
  • items which are damaged or tightly bound.

Users can purchase a camera licence and photograph material themselves in the search room. Some items are not included in the camera license due to copyright and data protection restrictions. A list of these items will be provided upon purchase of a camera license. The use of flash is prohibited.

Other kinds of reproduction are available for higher quality copies or for material which cannot be photocopied. We can scan or take digital photographs of records, books and photographs which are out of copyright. Please see our Fees and Charges page for more information.

Copies of all kinds are provided for private use only, however on payment of a reproduction fee, photographs of items held at DALHS may be published. Please contact us for a quotation.
