Reading and Writing

Here you can find information on everything to do with reading and writing.

If you are stuck on what to read next, just want to catch up on the winner of the Booker prize, or are interested in joining a reading group then this is the place for you.

Events and Activities

Our events page lists some exciting Dudley Library events.  Why not sign-up to our Library Events Newsletter to keep to to date with library events and activities.

Writing resources

Are you a writer? We have a writing resources page which lists free online writing courses, and links to writing groups.

The Six Book Challenge

Read anything.  Read anywhere. Sign up at any Dudley Library for the Six Book Challenge 2016.  Then choose six reads and record your reading in a diary to get a certificate.

The Challenge is aimed at adults who are less confident readers and those who would like to get back into reading. For more information contact Cara Evans, Service Development Librarian for Inclusion on 01384 815555 or e-mail.

Why not have a look at the website for participants to review your reading choices and get help finding your next read.

This year, receive a free pen when you sign up and a Six Book Challenge mug when you read three items.

Look out for new Quick Read titles, published in February.

Reading Groups

Reading Groups offer a welcoming, relaxing and friendly atmosphere to discuss books. Want to join one? Pick your library and check if it runs a reading group. Or why not try our Twitter Reading group?

  • At the end of this page you can find  a downloadable Reading Pack for anyone interested in setting up a reading group, as well as a list of the Reading Group book sets we have.

  • You do not have to belong to a library reading group to borrow these sets. Contact your local library if you belong to an external reading group and are interested in our book sets.

  • Visit the useful reading groups website from the Reading Agency.

Writing Groups

Local writing groups can be found on the Community Information Directory.  Just type 'writing groups' in the search box.

There are lots of useful and supportive websites for writers such as BBC Writers roomWrite Words, and Great Writing.  You can also view our booklist for writers on our online catalogue, from which you can reserve and collect from any library.
