Bereavement Services Rules and Regulations

These rules and regulations are a necessary requirement for the management of Dudley Metropolitan Borough Cemeteries and Crematoria.

Charter for the Bereaved

The Institute of Cemetery and Crematorium Management has produced the Charter for the Bereaved specifically to improve funerals.

The content of the Charter is based on the experiences of cemetery and crematorium managers with bereaved families. Professional and charitable groups involved with the bereaved have also been consulted. Regrettably, the Charter has not been supported by organisations representing funeral directing and embalming. It is hoped that their support can be obtained at some stage in the future to enable rights to be offered when these professionals are employed.

With regard to regulation the Charter for the Bereaved gives the following rights:

  1. You have a right to be given a list of regulations used by the Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council (as shown in the documents attached at the bottom of this page)

  2. You have a right to be given a written explanation why a particular regulation has been used to restrict or otherwise influences your rights.

A reference copy of the Charter can be borrowed and an eight page summary version is available free of charge from both cemetery offices.

Currently available are 2 format of Rules and Regulations. Please click the below links to view or download the rules and regulations in full.
