A4101 High Street, Pensnett major road improvement scheme

Road improvement scheme map

A multi-million pound scheme to improve Pensnett High Street started in May 2017.

The A4101 is a main road and a major part of the region’s transportation network. It serves local as well as business traffic and deliveries to Pensnett Trading Estate, which is the largest secured trading estate in Europe. Around 30,000 vehicles use the High Street every day.

The aims of the planned improvements are; to reduce delays and congestion, improve road safety, and improve pedestrian links and safety as well as bus service reliability.

Benefits of the £6.3m road improvements include:

  • New traffic lights at the High Street/Tansey Green Road junction and High Street/High Oak junction to ease congestion and improve safety for turning traffic
  • Road widening along the High Street to allow for the introduction of two lanes in both directions at the new traffic lights
  • Additional pedestrian crossing facilities along the High Street
  • Bradley Street to be closed to through traffic to improve visibility and safety for motorists and pedestrians
  • Birds Meadow and Tansey Green Road to be made left turn out only, to improve visibility and safety for motorists and pedestrians

Traffic management

Traffic management measures with temporary traffic signals and lane restrictions will be in place at various times and locations throughout the scheme.

The scheme is expected to take 12 months to complete.
