Road Safety for children under 5

We can offer a range of services to parents with children under 5 years of age and pre school groups (play groups, nurseries, child minders etc) in the Dudley Borough. We also work with Surestart and the Early Years Team in the Education Department.

The key themes for under 5's are

  • In-car safety
  • Holding hands
  • Pavements are for people
  • What is traffic?
  • Roads are for traffic

If you are in Dudley and would like literature on in-car safety, how to teach your child road safety, activity and colouring sheets for your child, or a presentation to your group you can contact the road safety team using the form below.

Teddy Takes a Tumble

This presentation, together with an accompanying video and big book makes an ideal session for children under six, highlighting the importance of always wearing seat belts.

Car Seats

If under 12 years of age and under 135cm ( 4ft 5ins), in height your child must use an appropriate seat restraint, not an adult belt. If in doubt contact Dudley Road Safety Team or your local seat restraint retailer.

If you are concerned about fitting your child's car seat, West Midlands Fire Service, in partnership with Dudley's Road Safety Team, are providing free car seat checks at Fire Stations across the borough. For more details see the related document below.
