Employment & Economy
Employment & Economy Policies

The aim of these policies is to ensure that there is sufficient employment land of the right type and in the right place to cater for the needs of both local businesses and inward investment.

  • EE1   KEY INDUSTRIAL AREAS AND DEVELOPMENT SITES. The following uses are considered acceptable: Research and Development, Light Industry, General Industry, Warehouses, Storage and Distribution. There are some ancillary uses, which are also specified, as acceptable. Ten development sites covering nearly 53 hectares are identified.

  • EE2  LOCAL EMPLOYMENT AREAS. These are smaller areas of employment activity where additional uses such as offices and other commercial uses that are not retail could be allowed.

  • EE3  EXISTING EMPLOYMENT USES. These are too small and widespread to be defined in the Proposals Map, but they will be protected except in the circumstances set out in the policy.

  • EE4  OFFICE DEVELOPMENT will be supported in the main town centres and only allowed elsewhere if specific criteria are met.

  • EE5  TOURISM is recognised as a key growth sector in the local economy and will be encouraged.

  • EE6  CLUSTER DEVELOPMENT will be promoted where appropriate.
