Sports Coaching (Seal Coach Accreditation)

Dudley Council Sport and Physical Activity section firmly believe that the safeguarding of children and young people is paramount.  One mechanism used to safeguard children and young people in sport and physical activity is the sport and physical activity providers coaches association Seal. 

Seal is part of sport and physical activity sections Child Protection policy, recognised and endorsed by both the Dudley Safeguarding Children Board and the NSPCC Child Protection in Sport Unit.  Seal is also recognised as good practice in safeguarding by the Department of Children, Schools and Families.

What is Seal?      

Seal is the Borough of Dudley Sports Coaches and Physical Activity Providers Association which acts as a quality assurance and safeguarding mechanism for coaches and providers working in the Borough

How is Seal co-ordinated? 

Seal is co-ordinated by the Sport and Physical Activity Section of Dudley Council Directorate of the Urban Environment

Why is Seal important?

Seal enhances the delivery of sport and physical activity and ensures standards and safeguards are developed and maintained across sport and the Borough

What do members get out of Seal? 

  • Guidance for Safer Working Practice for adults involved in sport & physical activity

  • Disclosure & Barring Service check (Enhanced Disclosure)
  • Advice and information

  • Training opportunities at a regional and local level

  • Membership of a registration scheme recognised by leading leisure professionals

  • Raised personal profile as an accredited sports coach

Seal membership is available for independent sport and physical activity providers (not on a contract of employment with the individual organisations) list below who deliver:

1. programmes for Dudley Council Sport and Physical Activity Service or Parks Activity Service

2. programmes in Dudley borough schools delivered/organised by the school

3. programmes for Dudley Public Health Physical Activity Team & Weight Management Team

4. programmes for Dudley Council Adult and Community Learning Service

How do you apply?

To apply for seal, please print off all related documents below and return completed applications to the seal manager. Alternatively you can contact the office for a seal pack to be sent directly to you.

  • Seal Reference Form [pdf / 106KB] Seal reference form to be completed by seal applicant when joining seal. Each seal applicant will require two written references before approval.

  • On-line Safeguarding Training [pdf / 87KB] This is available for seal members who need to complete their training. Please note this training will only be available up until 31.12.15. There will be no safeguarding training from 1st January 2016 - until March/April 2016.
