The aim of our cycle training is to promote cycling as a form of transport and to get more people cycling more safely, more often.
If you are starting to cycle for the first time, or returning to cycling after a gap, a great way to improve skills and gain confidence is to undertake cycle training.
Dudley's cycle training scheme is delivered by a team of instructors. It is based on the National Standards for Cycle Training. These standards fall into three levels:
- Level 1 – bike handling skills in a controlled environment away from roads
- Level 2 – skills and understanding to make a trip on quiet roads
- Level 3 – make a trip on busy roads, using complex junctions
Training takes place in schools, colleges, and we can also cater for individuals and family groups. Our courses for children are all Bikeabiltiy accredited – the new national cycling award for young people.
Classroom presentations & resources
A range of cycle safety and cycle promotion classroom presentations are available.
Primary Schools
All primary school training is provided free of charge. Schools are contacted to invite them to register. Training normally takes place in Year 3 and Year 5.
To take part, pupils will need a suitable bicycle and be ready to learn the outcomes for the course they are joining.
