What is Pedestrian Training?
Dudley Council is committed to reducing child pedestrian casualties. As part of this commitment we recognise the importance of early practical experience.
As such, we are now offering Practical Child Pedestrian Training, which is designed to teach children basic road safety skills. This will make them more aware of hazards on roads and demonstrate ways in which they can help to keep themselves safe. This is important whilst they are still dependant travellers, but also for independent travel later on in school life and beyond.
Children learn a lot through imitation, so parents and carers are encouraged to participate in the practical training sessions, particularly with Years 1 and 2. This enables them to reinforce the key messages delivered and build on them throughout the child's development.
The scheme has been offered to all Primary Schools in the Dudley Borough and we currently have 32 schools waiting to participate.
