Dudley Council is responsible for ensuring that street name plates are provided and fitted in suitable positions. In the case of a new development however, the developer is responsible for the erection of name plates to the Council's specification.
The Council is also responsible for repair and maintenance of street name plates within the borough when this becomes necessary either due to accidental damage, vandalism or normal wear and tear.
Naming of new streets and numbering of properties
Dudley Council is the street naming and numbering authority, which means that it is responsible for the naming of new streets and numbering of properties, and the changing / reallocation of individual property addresses.
When a new road is developed the developer must erect the correct standard of signage in the most suitable location. Once the road has been adopted, the Council will then take over the the maintenance of these nameplates.
Reporting a problem with a street name-plate
Wherever possible we will try to repair or clean defaced nameplates but when the nameplates have been severely damaged or are missing, we aim to replace these nameplates.
If you wish to report a problem with a missing or damaged street name plate please use our Street Name Plate / Street Maintenance Report Form , or contact us as per the details below.
