The Council looks after the roads and footways in the borough. The ongoing maintenance programs and repair works ensure that getting around the borough is as easy as possible. The various types of street maintenance are grouped into four activities:
-
Operations is the routine work needed to keep the roads safe to use by filling potholes, salting the roads and clearing snow in winter.
-
Preventative Maintenance is work such as thin overlays that arrest deterioration and help to stop roads and pavements becoming too damaged.
-
Strengthening is the work needed to repair the roads when they are no longer strong enough for the cars and lorries that use them.
-
Specialist activities is the work required to maintain safety fences, barriers and antiskid surfaces.
Potholes
Potholes on the road can be a danger to road users. Potholes on the pavement can lead to accident and injury for pedestrians. Therefore it is important to repair potholes whenever they occur. If you notice a pothole in the road, please tell us about it using our online contact form.
