Maintenance programme structural surveys

Any area of road or pavement which the inspector thinks may become an imminent danger to road users or pedestrians is noted and a repair arranged. All roads in the borough, approx 1000 km, are inspected and assessed regarding their condition at a given point in time, factors are attributed to this data relating to it's geometry, traffic volumes, bus routes and treatment required etc. This process known as UKPMS (United Kingdom Management System) uses the Local Authority Associations recommended weightings and intervention level.

A further process which reflects local priorities i.e Priority Neighbourhoods, Vulnerable users, Insurance Claims, etc. is applied to the output of UKPMS.

The result is a listing of all remedial work in Priority order required to ensure that all of the borough's roads are restored to an acceptable standard.

Work is undertaken in priority order to match the available budgets.
