Syringes stored incorrectly have the potential to cause needle stick injuries, which may result in the transmission of blood-borne disease. The practice of sharing needles can also result in the spread of blood-borne disease. Due to the legalities associated with drug use, many drug users inject in local parks, gardens, train stations and on the street.
Finding a needles or syringe on public land
Discarded needles and syringes can be a danger to everyone. To help us reduce the risk caused by needles you can report dumped needles to us. The Council will clear away discarded hypodermic syringes and needles from public areas free of charge. Needle collections are treated as a high priority and will be dealt with quickly, usually within 24 hours.
If you find a needle please pick it up carefully and place into a sealed plastic container or bottle (not glass) and we will collect and dispose of them safely.
