12 - Christmas lights to brighten up Halesowen

Archived news release from 2007

Halesowen’s Christmas light switch-on is set to draw in the crowds on Saturday 17 November.

The BRMB hosted celebrations will kick off at 10am with the town’s Christmas lights being switched on at 5pm in Somers Square by Ben Nicholas, who played Scott ‘Stingray’ Timmins in Neighbours.

As the lights go on there will be an impressive fireworks display, which will illuminate the skies with bright colours and imposing sounds.

Throughout the day, the town centre will host lots of fun activities for all the family including a fun fair, face painting for children and a chocolate fountain. There will also be lots of giveaways and prizes up for grabs.

Vale Retail Ltd, who are sponsoring the activities, are working in conjunction with the Halesowen Chamber of Trade and Dudley Council to organise the event, which promises to be bigger and better than ever before.

Councillor Malcolm Knowles, cabinet member for economic regeneration, said:

“Halesowen’s light switch-on is always a very popular event and we are looking forward to this year’s festivities.

“I am sure this wonderful day will bring seasonal magic to the town with something for all the family to enjoy.”

Stephen Fitzpatrick, Chairman of the Halesowen Chamber of Trade, said:

"With an appearance from Ben Nicholas who is currently on TV’s Celebrity Scissor Hands and with lots of delicious chocolates and mince pies to give away we’re bound to draw in the crowds for this lovely event.”
