A new drive to raise awareness about the dangers of young people carrying weapons has been launched.
Dudley Council’s Safe & Sound partnership has unveiled new leaflets and posters to specifically target young people.
They were designed by a group from Dudley’s Youth Offending Service, as part of a project looking at the serious consequences of carrying weapons.
The group identified key issues regarding weapons, including what constitutes an offensive weapon, the law surrounding offensive weapons and consequences of carrying or using weapons.
Councillor Anne Millward, cabinet member for community safety, said:
“Weapons can have very serious consequences for the victims and those carrying them.
“Hopefully, these leaflets and posters help demonstrate some of the issues around carrying weapons and raises awareness among young people.”
The leaflets and posters were funded by Black Country Connexions and Dudley Lifeskills Partnership. They will be distributed to youth centres, the youth offending service and other organisations across the borough. The posters are also distributed to all secondary schools across the borough. They will also be handed out at various youth events over the next few months.
