A Remembrance Sunday parade and Armistice Day service will be held in Dudley town centre on Sunday November 11.
Hundreds of people are expected to attend Dudley borough’s official memorial service, which begins with a parade through the town and includes a two-minute silence at the Cenotaph in Coronation Gardens.
An Armistice service will take place at the memorial to the fallen of the First World War, in the clock tower in Priory Street at 10am. Here a lone piper from the West Midlands Police Pipe Band will provide background music while a wreath is laid in memory of those who lost their lives.
Meanwhile uniformed organisations will assemble in Vicar Street from 10.15am and the traditional Remembrance Sunday parade will step off at 10.30am. The parade will make its way down High Street, Stone Street and Priory Street, where it will pay respect at the memorial to the fallen of the First World War. The parade will then continue along Priory Road, saluting the Mayor of Dudley, Councillor David Stanley, before stopping at the Cenotaph in Coronation Gardens.
The service of remembrance will start at 10.50am at the Cenotaph and will include a two-minute silence and wreath laying ceremony. The West Midlands Pipe Band will lead the parade and the Salvation Army and Dudley Performing Arts brass section will also provide music.
The Mayor of Dudley, Councillor David Stanley, said:
“I hope as many people as possible are able to join the uniformed organisations and the civic party at the service. This event provides an opportunity for us all to formally remember those who have died or whose lives have been affected by war.”
A number of roads in the town will be closed from 8am to 1pm to allow the parade and service to take place. Roads closed will include Ednam Road, New Street, Tower Street, Priory Street, Stone Street, Parsons Street, High Street, Union Street, Priory Road (from the Broadway to New Street), St James’s Road (from Trinity Road to Priory Street), the Market Place (from Mew Street to Union Street), Wolverhampton Street (from High Street to the Inhedge) and Vicar Street (from Kings Street to High Street).
