Eager silver surfers across the borough are urged to zip along to Dudley libraries this month as part of a national campaign.
Dudley libraries are hosting a number of sessions to celebrate and promote Silver Surfer Week from 10 to 14 September, dedicated to getting older people in touch with the world through computer technology.
The taster sessions are designed to help and boost the confidence of older people who are apprehensive about computers and encourage them to make the most of free computer access available at council-run libraries.
Sessions are tailored to individual needs and can include a brief hands-on introduction to computer technology, learning how to search the internet or how to set up an e-mail account.
Sessions will take place at Sedgley Library on Monday 10 and Friday 14 September, Kingswinford Library on Tuesday 11 and Wednesday 12 September, at Brierley Hill Library on Friday 14 September from 9am to 11pm, Wall Heath Library on Monday 10 and Wednesday 12 from 2-4pm, Gornal Library on Wednesday at 12 noon and Halesowen Library on Friday 14 from 2.30-3.30 and 3.30-4.30.
Last year the national campaign attracted 17,000 older people at more than 1,900 community events across the country.
Councillor Michael Evans, lead member for libraries and archives, said:
“The free computer access across libraries is a fantastic service, but for some older residents the thought of computers and the World Wide Web can be a daunting prospect. Therefore these sessions are an ideal way to learn the basics steps and discover a whole new world.”
