12 - World peace at Halesowen Library

Archived news release from 2007

World peace was promoted at Halesowen Library when two leading local authors gave talks on the topic.
The event called, Two men, One name, One message – Peace, saw the two authors, both named Jim Parkes offer their perspectives on peace.
It took place in the Shenstone Theatre at the library in the Cornbow Centre today (Wed) and was held ahead of International Day of Peace on September 21.
Halesowen’s Jim Parkes talked around the content in his book entitled, Seriously are you taking the peace? which offers hints and tips on how everyone can lead a more peaceful life.
Meanwhile Erdington’s Jim Parkes looked at peace through his book, Adventures of an urban explorer – The 100 country challenge. This book looks at how governments and media manipulation in different countries deal with war and peace.
Councillor Michael Evans, cabinet member for library services, said:
“I’m sure there were plenty of tips and advice on offer from both authors on how to lead a more peaceful life. Books from both of these local authors are available at our libraries for people to read at their leisure.”
The event was attended by Sylvia Heal MP, along with members of the public who were also able to buy copies of the books.
