14 - Easter activities at museums

Archived news release from 2008

There’s family fun at museums this Easter thanks to the popular JAM club.

At Broadfield House Glass Museum from 21 March to 6 April from 12noon to 4pm there’s a free trail. In No place like Gnome, children can hunt the museum for garden items, watching out for naughty gnomes on the way.

At Dudley Museum & Art Gallery on 25 and 26 March children can join the Easter fun session and make a designer egg topper and hanging
easter egg.

On 2 and 3 April there’s Dinosaur Mania where children can create a flying dinosaur and scary dinosaur puppet.

Sessions for both activities start at 11am, 12noon and 1pm, but may take longer than an hour to complete. They cost £2.25 per child.

From 22 March to 5 April at the museum there’s a free Football frenzy trail. Youngsters can be on the look out for hidden footballs in the many on site exhibitions.

At Red House Glass Cone on 31 March, 1 and 2 April there’s Oink, Oink!
Children can create a pigging good place to keep their pencils, make a pig hand puppet and decorate their own ceramic tile.

On 3 and 4 April the activity is The Secret Garden, an array of insect and bug crafts. Youngsters can design a tissue stained glass butterfly, make a whirling windmill, decorate an insect glider and make a foam insect door hanger.

There are two sessions a day, running from 10.30am to 12.30pm and 1.30pm to 3.30pm and cost £3 per child. Sessions at the cone need to be booked in advance.

Throughout the holiday from 21 March to 6 April from 10am to 4pm children can join in the free bug’s life treasure trail. Staff have hidden insect stamps around the site and youngsters can track them down and have their card stamped.

During April the popular Sticky Saturdays craft club continues.  Broadfield is opening its doors on 5 April, Dudley Museum on 12 April while the cone has a session on 19 April. Sessions run from 1.30 to 3.30pm and last around 30 minutes. April’s craft is wax resist trees. There’s no need to book and the sessions work on a drop-in basis.

Entry to all sites is free. For further information call the Red House Cone on 01384 812750, Dudley Museum and Art Gallery on 01384 815575 or Broadfield House Glass Museum on 01384 812745.
