Visitors to Dudley’s libraries are invited to enjoy more local history talks during October.
Dudley’s successful programme of local history talks continues with a reminder of the history of pearl making from George Hook, the last mother of pearl maker in Birmingham. George will present examples of both raw and fashioned mother of pearl at Halesowen Library on Wednesday October 15 at 2.30pm.
Anyone interested in the ‘Forgotten buildings of Dudley and Sedgley’ can learn more from Trevor Genge at Dudley Library on Wednesday October 22 at 2.30pm. Trevor was recently awarded the ‘Thomas Attwood’ award for education and has written five books on this and other local history subjects.
Visitors to Stourbridge Library on Friday October 31 can find out about the history of the Stourbridge canal system thanks to David Hickman. His talk is in the Wollaston room at Stourbridge Town Hall at 2.30pm.
Admission to all talks is £1 and places can be reserved by contacting libraries direct or visiting www.dudley.gov.uk .
Councillor Michael Evans, cabinet member for libraries and archives said:
“Dudley’s local history programme this year is fascinating. Anyone attending is welcome to join our libraries during their visit and discover for themselves the range of services our libraries have to offer.”
