11 - Family valuation day at glass museum

Collectors young and old are invited to bring their treasures to Broadfield House Glass Museum on Saturday 26 April to be valued by experts from Fieldings.

Children can bring along their own collectables, or a favourite ornament from a grandparent’s mantelpiece, for £1 per valuation.  Adults can bring along their treasures too and all types of antiques or collectables old and new will be welcomed.  A maximum of three items per person is recommended.

All proceeds will go to The Friends of Broadfield House, a charity that supports the work of the Dudley Council-run glass museum.  There will also be free craft activities running throughout the day offering children the opportunity to design their own secret treasure box.

The team of specialists from the Stourbridge-based auctioneers will include glass and ceramics expert William Farmer who has appeared on the BBC’s Antiques Roadshow, Children’s Roadshow and the 20th Century Roadshow.

Nicholas Davies, who specialises in silver and jewellery, Helen Powell, who is a ceramics and paintings expert, and furniture and collectables expert Andrew Mayall will also be there.

Roger Dodsworth, keeper of glass at the museum, said:

“We’re delighted to welcome Fieldings back to Broadfield House Glass Museum after the success of their first Valuation Day last year.

“I’m sure this event will encourage budding collectors and their families to learn the value of their treasured items while also raising money for the invaluable work of The Friends organisation.”

The event starts at 10am and last admissions are at 3pm.  Admission to the glass museum, located on Compton Drive in Kingswinford, is free.  For more details telephone 01384 812745 or visit www.glassmuseum.org.uk.
