Borough residents can enjoy the spring scenery and join in a series of nature and birding walks this May.
There is a five to six mile walk through Buckpool, Fens Pools and Barrow Hill nature reserves on Thursday 1May from 10am to 1pm. Fens Pool has the largest area of open water in Dudley, boasting many different species of water bird. The walk starts and finishes at the Samson and Lion public house on Brierley Hill Road, Wordsley. Booking on 01384 812780.
On Thursday 1 May from 10.30pm to 12.30pm there’s a chance to have a tour around Mushroom Green Chain Shop where participants can see how the chains used to be made. Walkers can also explore the hamlet of Mushroom Green and the nature reserve. This walk meets at Saltwells car park, off Saltwells Lane, Quarry Bank. Booking on 01384 812795.
Bird lovers can join in a dawn chorus walk at Wren’s Nest Nature Reserve on Tuesday 6 May from 4.30am to 6.30am. Twitchers should bring a hot drink, refreshments and binoculars. Walking shoes and boots are recommended due to steep hills and steps. Meet at Mons Hill College car park, Wren’s Hill Road, Dudley. Booking on 01384 812785.
Also on Tuesday 6May from 10am to 12noon there’s a chance to join in a bluebell walk of Saltwells Woods. There are only 12 places available. Booking is essential on 01384 812795. The walk meets at Saltwells car park, off Saltwells Lane, Quarry Bank.
On Sunday 11May from 10am to 12noon walk there’s a special bird walk around Cotwall End Valley. The bird themed walk includes a talk from an RSPB representative. Participants should meet at Brockswood Animal Sanctuary car park, off Catholic Lane, Sedgley. For information call 01902 674668.
On Tuesday 13May from 10am-1pm residents can join in the Saltwells ramble, a local history walk with a guided tour of Saltwells Woods with a special focus on the wildflowers. A second RSPB guided walk and birding activity day is planned for Saturday 24May from 10am to 4pm at The Leasowes. For information call 01384 814642.
