Shoppers in Dudley can help boost the Mayor’s charities when a children’s story book goes on sale in the town to raise funds – with help from a furry friend.
Maren Lilley, who works as administrative assistant to the chief executive, has written a series of stories called The Netherteens, based around the adventures of a group of young people from Netherton who solve crimes at Wren’s Nest National Nature Reserve and Dudley Zoo.
The latest book is called Wren's Nest's Mysterious Paths and is the tenth adventure for the Netherteens.
Maren has set up a stall in Dudley market on Saturday April 12 to sell the book to the public for the first time. Proceeds will go to the Mayor’s charities - Dudley Alzheimer’s Society and the RNLI. Some of the money raised will also go to Dudley Zoo.
A keeper from Dudley Zoo will help run the stall and will be bringing along a cuddly animal for people to see.
Maren said:
“I’ve had lots of requests for the book at work and it has also been very popular with school children. But this is the first time it has been on sale to the public.
“I think it is a great way to raise money for charity and encourage children to learn about the fascinating history of this borough.”
Maren has also included a glossary at the back of the book to tell the reader more about the sites visited in the story.
The stall will be in Market Place, from 8.30am-4.30pm. Representatives from the charity will also be available for information on where the raised money will go, from 11am. Geology experts from Dudley Council will also be on hand to offer information on the history of the area.
Maren has already raised almost £140 so far this year, through her book.
