15 - Business is blooming in Lye

Lye Business Centre

A variety of enterprising small companies are blossoming at a business centre in the Black Country.

Lye Business Centre, owned by Dudley Council, boasts 31 self-contained units. The units, which range in size from 550 sq ft to 1,000 sq ft, are currently home to a diverse range of firms.

Firms are flourishing at the centre and one modelling agency is the picture perfect example of its tenants. Divinity Model Management, founded in 2006 by ex-model, artist and fashion designer, Katarina Lavender, is just one of many blossoming businesses based at the centre in Hayes Lane. It is situated in a unit which has been converted into a studio and offers girls of all ages the opportunity to learn about the fashion industry in a safe and controlled environment.

Other budding firms at the site include BS2005 Limited which is run by Jenny Waltho and supplies a unique range of sanitary shoe cover dispensers for use in hospitals, laboratories and other appropriate industries.

The Dudley Council-run centre was developed in the early 1990s and offers tenants an “easy in – easy out” tenancy arrangement through the provision of  a three-year lease, with a four week termination option to offer them flexibility.

The centre provides a range of workspace for both start-up and growing small businesses and is located in Enterprise Drive, Hayes Lane, Lye.

Mark Ray, business development officer for Dudley Council, said:
“Over the years the centre has helped many companies start up with the support of the facilities on offer. There is currently a great variety of businesses using the excellent facilities on offer at Lye Business Centre and we hope more and more businesses will follow suit and set up business here in the future.”

The centre also offers a central administration service and provides information and advice on starting new businesses, planning, business development and how to access grants and loans. It also offers typing and word processing facilities, fax and photocopying services, and information on other industrial and commercial workspace across the Dudley borough.

There are currently vacant units ranging in size from 550 sq ft to 1,000 sq ft. Any start-up or small businesses interested in finding out more about Lye Business Centre should call Marie Avey at the centre on 01384 816650.
