The iconic Red House Glass Cone will be used as a polling station for the first time during this year’s elections.
The historic cone will be visited by hundreds of voters in the Brierley Hill ward on Thursday May 1.
It will be open from 7am to 10pm for people to cast their vote and staff at the visitor attraction are extending their normal opening hours so people can have a look around the site while they’re there. It will be an ideal opportunity to view the current exhibitions and check out the extensive range of items for sale in the Cone’s gift shop, and see glass blowing in action.
Sarah Hall, visitor services manager at the Red House Glass Cone, said:
“We hope people casting their vote on Thursday will take the time to come and have a look at what’s on offer.”
The cone will be open from 7am-10pm for voting, the Stuart Crystal gift centre opens from 9am-8pm and Crystal Tea Room is welcoming visitors from 10am-4pm.
There will be glassblowing demonstrations from 10am-5pm and residents of the courtyard craft studios will be on hand displaying their products until 8pm.
The Cone will be one of 195 polling stations across the borough, which will be open from 7am to 10pm.
Ali Mason, head of electoral services, said:
“It is the first time we have used the Red House Glass Cone as a polling station.
“We hope it will give people the chance to look round one of our finest award winning tourist attractions, while casting their vote in the local elections.”
