For the next twelve months fishing will not be permitted at The Leasowes in Halesowen.
The suspension has been put in place to help the recovery of the banks of Priory Pool as they are suffering the effects of erosion and have become a safety concern. The lack of vegetation is also impacting on the wildlife which live in and around the pool.
In addition there have been instances of anti-social behaviour with overnight camping, damage to trees and littering.
Antony Ravenscroft, senior warden at The Leasowes, said:
“We have installed phragmites reed in coir rolls in the pool which will help stabilise the vegetation. The absence of anglers until June next year will give the pool edges time to rejuvenate and ensure they are not a health and safety risk when the pool re-opens.”
