Dudley residents will receive British citizenship certificates at a ceremony to be held in the borough on St George’s Day (April 23).
Dudley Council has traditionally staged the monthly events on Thursdays but has moved next week’s ceremony forward one day to tie it in with celebrations of the patron saint.
The special event, which will see a total of 15 people obtain their certificate of naturalisation, will be conducted at the council run register office at Priory Hall. Countries of origin of the new citizens include Tanzania, Burundi, Pakistan, Iraq, Philipennes, Iran, India, Yemen and Rwanda.
The occasion will be marked with a speech from the Mayor of Dudley, Councillor David Stanley and a welcome from the Deputy Mayor, Councillor Ray Burston.
Teresa Reilly, assistant director for law and property at Dudley Council, said:
“The citizenships ceremonies have proved very popular events in Dudley and are special occasions for all the individuals concerned. We took the decision to move this event as we felt it was fitting to have the ceremony on St George’s Day.”
