The Red House Glass Cone’s most unusual resident a 6 foot tree will literally ‘branch out’ when it is removed from the site this week.

The Buddleia tree, which has been at the former glass-making cone for several years, will be removed on Thursday as its branches are threatening the listed building’s brickwork.

To replace the tree, staff at the visitor attraction will also plant a new one in a safer location on the site.

Councillor Karen Shakespeare, cabinet member for culture and environment, said:

“The cone is an historical site and is the only one of its kind left in the country.

“It is vital that we preserve this precious building as it tells a story about the area’s heritage.”

The Red House Glass Cone is open seven days a week from 10am to 4pm and entry is free. For more information on the cone call 01384 812750 or visit www.dudley.gov.uk/redhousecone
