Dudley borough residents are reminded that backlogs of bank holiday waste are a thing of the past as rubbish collections now take place on all bank holidays.
The improvement in service, which was introduced for the Whitsun bank holiday, means that around 25,000 homes in the borough which previously missed out, now receive weekly collections throughout the year. The council will now collect on all bank holidays other than the Christmas and new year period.
Residents due collections on days that fell on bank holidays previously had to wait a fortnight before a double collection was carried out. But backlogs of rubbish are now a thing of the past as Dudley Council now carries out collections on all bank holidays.
Residents are being reminded about the collections before the bank holiday collections on August 25.
Councillor Karen Shakespeare, cabinet member for the environment and culture, said:
“We are really pleased to be offering this extended and improved service. Previously people who receive collections on Mondays, which is 20% of our households, were missing out when it came to bank holidays. The improved service means that all residents receive weekly collections throughout the year.”
Dudley Council now collects waste on Easter Monday, May Day, Whit Monday, August bank holiday and Good Friday. This means collections are held on all week days of the year apart from the Christmas and New Year period.
Collections were previously only made on May Day and Good Friday but the improved, extended service means bank holidays are now covered.
Residents are reminded to ensure their bags are left out for collection from 6am on the morning of collection.
