Parents and carers of children under five can find out all about children’s centres thanks to a new website.
The site at http://childrenscentres.dudley.gov.uk contains a whole host of information about the centres, which aim to give children across Dudley the best start in life.
Children’s centres are part of the national SureStart programme which aims to achieve better outcomes for children, parents and communities by increasing access tochildcare, improving children’s health and emotional development and supporting families.
Among the services available through the centres are early education and childcare, family support, child and family health services, training opportunities for parents and links with Jobcentre Plus.
There are currently 17 children’s centres at sites across the borough. Six were developed under a first phase and are fully up and running, a further 11 are opening their doors under a rolling programme of development as buildings are completed and staff recruited.
A third phase of development will see three further centres established beyond 2008, covering remaining areas of the borough.
Councillor Liz Walker, cabinet member for children’s services, said:
“Dudley is committed to providing high quality services for our young children and their families. Our centres are doing really good work and their achievements have been recognised nationally and internationally.
“I would encourage parents and carers to have a look at the new children’s centres website to help them access the best opportunities for their families.”
