People planning a holiday over the August bank holiday weekend are reminded to make arrangements for their rubbish bags to be left out for collection.
Dudley Council now carries out refuse collections on all bank holidays and bosses are encouraging residents who will be away from home for the bank holiday on August 25 to make arrangements with neighbours, friends or family to ensure their waste is left out for collection.
The decision to make bank holiday collections has been a significant service improvement and the response from residents has been very positive. But the council is keen to ensure people receiving the collections do remember to put their bags out.
Councillor Karen Shakespeare, cabinet member for the environment and culture, said:
“We fully appreciate that over the August bank holiday weekend many people will be away on holiday. We would ask that where possible people ask neighbours, friends or family members to put their bags out for collection.”
Dudley Council now collects waste on Easter Monday, May Day, Whit Monday, August Bank Holiday and Good Friday. This means collections are held on all week days of the year apart from the Christmas and New Year period.
Collections were previously only made on May Day and Good Friday but the improved, extended service means all bank holidays are now covered.
Residents are reminded to ensure their bags are left out for collection from 6am on the morning of collection.
