7 - Businesses can go back in time

Archived news release from 2008

Netherton businesses are being encouraged to get into the spirit of the nineteenth century.
Netherton Regeneration Strategic Group is organising a Victoriana Day on Saturday 20 September in Netherton’s old market place.  Northfield Road will be closed to traffic and filled with market stalls, Black Country acts, musicians, entertainment, funfair and lots more.
Local businesspeople can get involved by dressing for the occasion and children from local schools are invited to enter a Victorian-themed fancy dress contest.
Netherton Arts Centre will be transformed into a Victorian Cinema for the day and Victorian fashion shows, artefacts and games will be on display as well as demonstrations from re-enactment groups.  Refreshments will be available from the markets and from local catering outlets.
Councillor Liz Walker, cabinet member for children’s services said:

“The Victoriana Day will be a spectacular event and should attract visitors from across the borough on the day.  This will be a great opportunity for the local community to get together and celebrate such a unique era in British history.”

The event has been funded by Fairshare Lottery, Awards For All and the Netherton Regeneration Strategic Group.

There are still a few opportunities left for organisations, charities, community groups and businesses to hire a stall for the day and music or arts groups, schools and businesses can also still get involved in activities.
