28 - Mayoral car to get a clean at charity car wash

Dudley’s mayoral car will be given the once over by soldiers from the Mercian Regiment at a charity car wash this Saturday.
 
The Mercian Regiment will be holding a charity car wash from10am to 2pm on Flood Street car park in Dudley.
 
The newly formed regiment was given the Freedom of the borough in March and will strengthen their ties to the area further by carrying out the fundraiser.
 
An the event has received civic backing after it was confirmed the Mayor of Dudley, Councillor Ray Burston, will make a trip to the car wash on Saturday.
 
Councillor Ray Burston, the Mayor of Dudley, said:
 
“I do hope as many people as possible will support this charity car wash. I am sure we all greatly appreciate the work of those in the armed services who give so much to this country.
 
“I will be going along to get the mayoral car washed and I’m sure the soldiers will be doing a first class job.”
 
The Mayor will visit the car wash at 12.30pm on Saturday where he will get the opportunity to speak to the regiment about its work.
 
The regiment will be dividing money raised between two charities. They will donate half of the money raised to a charity called Help for Heroes, which delivers money, support and advice to military personnel.  The regiment has sustained a number of casualties in recent operations in Afghanistan. They will give the other half of donations raised to the Mayor’s Charity Appeal.
 
The Mercian Regiment is made up of the former Stafford, Worcester and Sherwood Foresters and the Cheshires.
