19 - Mystery artist proves a big draw in Dudley

Archived news release from 2008

A popular art challenge in Dudley has been drawing in the crowds – even an infamous mystery artist.

The Big Draw, which runs until September 20, showcases a variety of pieces including drawings and watercolours at Dudley Museum and Art Gallery.

It is hoped the exhibition, which includes a blank wall where visitors can display their own artwork, will encourage people of all ages to develop their artistic skills.

Mystery artist Mario Lanza’s Ghostwriter has caused a stir by leaving his distinctive drawings in pubs, telephone boxes and other public places across the Black Country.

Now it seems the secretive scribbler has left one of his drawings on the displays of the exhibition at Dudley Museum and Art Gallery.

Staff discovered the drawing entitled Mario Lanza Fan, along with the trademark sketch of the Italian tenor.

Dudley Museum and Art gallery is open Monday to Saturday 10am-4pm, and admission is free.

For more information on any of the exhibitions at the Museum call 01384 815575.
