29 - New children's centre opens in Dudley

Archived news release from 2008

Young children and their families will benefit from a whole host of services with the opening of a new children’s centre in Dudley.

Woodside Children’s Centre opens on Monday, September 8, and will offer help and support to families with children aged under five living in the Woodside, Holly Hall and Russells Hall areas of Dudley.

Among the services on offer are early learning and childcare, family support, child and family health services, training and employment advice for parents and carers and links with Jobcentre Plus. The centre will also be home to the new Woodside Library Link

Woodside Children’s Centre is based next to Woodside Community School, formerly known as Highgate Primary School, and will also have outreach services covering the Russells Hall area.

Parents and carers living in the Woodside, Holly Hall and Russells Hall areas have been given the chance to say what services they would like to see offered.
During a consultation process last year more than 400 people gave their views about what they wanted from the centre.

Sarah Tuck, centre manager said:

“We are really looking forward to opening the centre and to begin supporting local children and families. We welcome all families to come and find out more about the services we can provide for them.”

Councillor Liz Walker, cabinet member for children’s services, said:

"Being the parent or carer of a young child is not always easy and I would encourage families to find out more about the support which is on offer to them via the new centre."

Woodside Children’s Centre will also be home to Woodside Library Link which will also open on September 8 following the closure of Woodside Library on September 6.
The new library link will offer bright, modern facilities and access to all library services. There will be at least 1,500 books, which will be refreshed on a regular basis, with the addition of new books each month, computer and internet access.
