14 - Stalls up for grabs at festival

Archived news release from 2008
craft stalls up for grabs

Stall holders are urged not to miss the boat and get involved with year’s Festival of Water and Light which promises to be bigger and better than ever.

The 10th anniversary event will be held at the Waterfront in Brierley Hill on October 5 and will feature the traditional colourful boat parade as well as live music, dance groups and a funfair.

Craft, food and entertainment stalls will also be at the event and stall holders are being encouraged to apply early if they want a stand at the show. To apply for a stall, people should call organisers CCEM on 08707 449701 or email admin@ccem.co.uk. Alternatively people can visit www.dudley.gov.uk and follow the link where they can download an application form.

Compton Hospice won’t be missing the boat this year as they are one organisation to have already signed up to run a stall. The charity will be fundraising at the stall throughout the event.

The Compton Hospice team will be fundraising by selling lottery tickets for their annual draw ‘sporting chance’ which will put people in with a chance of winning £5,000. Other prizes include £300 of Asda vouchers and a £300 membership of Swancote Leisure and Fitness Club.

All the Proceeds raised by the sale of the £1 tickets will go towards providing medical care and support for the hospice’s patients. Compton Hospice offers a completely free care service to patients with life limiting illnesses and invaluable support to their families and carers.

Councillor Malcolm Knowles, cabinet member for regeneration, said:
“This event attracts thousands of people every year and I’m sure many craft stall holders will be keen to exhibit at the show. The stalls, along with all the other entertainment, ensure that there will be something for whole family.”

The theme of this year’s event will be ‘What a wonderful world’ and it will feature narrowboats decorated to represent different countries across the globe. Compton Hospice are one of the community groups which will be decorating a boat for the parade.

Meanwhile the waterfront in Brierley Hill will become Venice for the day with Italian-style decorations. Meanwhile boats will be decorated by community groups to represent countries and continents such as America, Africa, Iceland, Scotland, India and much more.

Organisers are also appealing to local businesses to donate £1,000 or more in sponsorship to the event to become a ‘festival angel’. Companies taking part will receive tickets to the VIP event reception and mentions from the main stage.

The event is free to attend and will include the traditional colourful boat parade as well as live music, dance groups, a funfair and craft exhibitions. Radio station Heart FM will return as this year’s media partner following their huge success last year at the hugely popular family event. The Dudley Council festival is organised by CCEM.

Companies wanting to sponsor the event can contact event organisers CCEM on 08707 449701 or email admin@ccem.co.uk
